The Department of Health and Environmental Engineering of SvF STU has joined the international project ESGCA – Bridging Environmental Concerns, Societal Needs, and Good Governance in Central Asian Education and Employment Sectors, which aims to support the introduction of the principles of environmental and social responsibility and sustainability into education and employment practice in Central Asia.
The project will result in a new two-year master's program in the field of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and a set of micro-certificate courses for universities and public administration in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, which is intended to form future leaders who prioritize environmental and social responsibility. Our experts will contribute to the development of the curriculum, exchange of experiences and support of the quality of teaching in the field of environmental engineering and sustainable development. The project is also an opportunity to establish cooperation between academic community, local government and the private sector in finding solutions to environmental and social challenges and creating so-called green jobs.
To deepen cooperation between institutions and gain inspiration for the implementation of ESG principles, a meeting of project partners was held at the STU in Bratislava from 7th to 10th April 2025. The meeting focused on practical applications of ESG principles in sustainable industry, higher education and water management. The program was also supplemented by practical experience in the field of ESG reporting from companies such as AVS, PAM Saint-Gobain, Slovnaft, Colliers and Ernst & Young. The exchange of experience between academics, experts from practice and students contributed to building a strong international network. Other planned project activities should bring new inspiration for the sustainable transformation of education in Central Asia and Europe.
The ESGCA project is implemented within the Erasmus+ CBHE programme. The project coordinator is the University of Genoa and another European partner is the Lucian Blaga University in Sibiu.
