On Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, we welcomed a rare visit from LUT University from the Finnish city of Lappeenranta, which is our partner university within the European alliance of universities EULiST, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering STU.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss LUT University's intention to establish a Faculty of Civil Engineering on its premises. The meeting was part of a three-day visit by the Finnish delegation, during which they visited three partner universities of the EULiST alliance of universities that teach civil engineering. In addition to the Slovak University of Technology, they also visited the Brno University of Technology and the Technische Universität Wien.
The delegation from Finland, consisting of the Dean of the LUT School of Energy Systems D.Sc. (Tech.) Olli Pyrhönen, Kirsi Taivalantti, Director for Development, Anne Himanka, Director of Academic Affairs and D.Sc. (Tech.) Petri Ajo, Director for Growth, was received by representatives of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of STU – Vice-Dean for External Relations and Cooperation with Practice Prof. Katarína Gajdošová, Vice-Dean for Science and Research Prof. Kamila Hlavčová and Vice-Dean for Education Assoc. Prof. Peter Makýš. The meeting was also attended by STU Vice-Rectors Assoc. Prof. Milena Reháková, Assoc. Prof. Katarína Smatanová and Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Martin Rebroš and experts from our faculty.
The Finnish partners took away information from the meeting about our study system, the structure of study programs, subjects and research areas. Although LUT University does not yet offer studies in the field of construction, representatives of both institutions have already identified intersections in the field of research, which represents potential for future cooperation.
