BIM Association Slovakia and the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology, in cooperation with partners, have prepared the 9th annual BIM Challenge competition for university students. The event took place on April 25, 2025 at our faculty, where students could compete in creating a BIM model and project documentation. The highest award went to our student Marek Kubina.
Traditionally, the largest number of competitors were students from our faculty. Students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Košice, the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Technology, UNIZA, in Žilina and the Faculty of Architecture and Design of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava also participated in the competition. Almost 50 competitors applied for the current year, with 31 of them successfully submitting all the documents and being included in the evaluation.
The students worked on the same assignment – uniform project documentation for a family house construction project, which had to be modeled in accordance with BIM principles in the selected software (Allplan, Archicad, Revit). An important part of the task was not only the correct creation of the model, but also the ability to generate complete project documentation from the model and correctly work with the information in the model. The specifics of this year was the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in generating project visualizations. The students had to adjust the visualization so that it looked in the style of Čičmany architecture.
The best solvers received their awards from the hands of Vice-Dean Professor Katarína Gajdošová and BIMaS President Dr. Michal Pasiar.
- Marek Kubina, Faculty of Civil Engineering, STU in Bratislava

The BIM Challenge competition aims to support the development of BIM design in Slovakia, motivate university students to improve their professional skills, and at the same time connect them with companies that support innovative solutions and are leaders in the field of building information modeling. Experience confirms that companies are actively looking for graduates who not only show interest in BIM, but also can effectively use relevant software tools and contribute to the optimization of design processes.
