Research focus
One of the main attributes of geodetic measurements is their high accuracy. Geodetic measurements are therefore naturally based on the requirement to document not only the value of the determined quantity but also its accuracy, or to plan the measurement in such a way that it is performed in a manner that guarantees the accuracy required to determine the value of the relevant quantity. The accuracy characteristics achieved and declared during measurement are closely linked to the quality of the measurement process and, therefore, to the quality of the equipment used for measurement. An essential part of geodetic measurements is therefore the metrological assurance of the instruments and aids used in the measurement, which in practice is done by testing and calibrating them. For this purpose, calibration laboratories are also being built in Slovakia, which are grouped together in the virtual Kalibračné centrum geodézie (Geodetic Calibration Center - KCG) in the field of geodesy. Within the KCG, the Department of Surveying provides the following services through the Laboratórium nivelačných systémov a krátkych dĺžok (Laboratory of Leveling Systems and Short Lengths - LNSaKD):
- calibration of levelling systems (instrument + staff) on a vertical comparator,
- calibration of levelling staffs separately on a horizontal comparator,
- calibration of measuring tapes on a horizontal comparator.



The result of calibration is a calibration protocol/certificate containing data about the measuring instrument, corrections for selected scale divisions of the measuring instrument relative to nominal values determined by interferometric measurement

The design of the device and data evaluation is protected by patent No. 289051 registered by the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic.
