Research focus
The field of survey documentation of monuments has been the subject of research at the Department of Surveying of the SvF STU practically since its creation, as evidenced by dozens of successful scientific and commercial projects.
As a historical and current leader in teaching applied close-range photogrammetry in Slovakia, it practices modern methods and techniques of photogrammetry and laser scanning, such as photogrammetric scanning, panoramic photogrammetry, convergent photogrammetry, mobile scanning, and others. Standard outputs are point clouds, 3D mesh models, orthophotomosaics, 2D vector drawings, and 3D vector models. It also specializes in digital reconstruction of archaeological and artistic objects using structured light scanning methods or focus stacking.
It has the equipment for all required digitization tasks: high-quality geodetic drones, top-of-the-line full-frame and medium-format digital cameras, panoramic cameras, image scanner, terrestrial laser scanners, UAV LiDAR, RTK modules for direct data georeferencing, VR glasses and other special accessories.
The department closely cooperates with the Pamiatkový úrad Slovenskej republiky (The Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic), the Department of Architecture of the SvF STU and other experts in the field of restoration and protection of cultural heritage. Its employees are also members of the UNESCO Chair for the Restoration of an Architectural Heritage at Slovak Technical University in Bratislava.
