Research focus
The research group deals with digitization of existing assets and Building Information Modeling (BIM). It focuses on the application of advanced technologies for spatial data collection for the purpose of effective digitization of existing assets or buildings. In its activities, it uses modern methods such as laser scanning (TLS), photogrammetry (also UAV) and 360° image capturing.
In the field of information modeling, the research is focused on automated segmentation of point clouds and the development of tools for semi-automated creation of BIM models. The group actively collaborates on defining standards for the creation of information models, including the specification of the Level of Information Need (LOIN), while cooperating with partners from both the public and private sectors. Selected members act as experts in the BIM Association Slovakia.
The group's current research activities are focused on automated geometry verification of building structures at the stage of rough construction. This process involves comparing the as-planned geometric parameters from the BIM model with the as-built, obtained by collecting spatial data (in the form of a point cloud), which allows for effective identification of deviations and increases the quality of construction.
The research group also provides expert services in the field of creating information models of existing buildings.
