* XXIX. Seminar of Ivan Poliaček with international participation

18.-20.11. 2024, Jasná, Low Tatras, Hotel Grand****
Road construction must respect the quality of the environment and living space for future generations in the interests of sustainability, taking into account developments and trends at the international level. Solutions can be found mainly in the technical development of this construction sector, where new and improved road construction materials, improved construction methods, and new technologies, recycling, and reuse of construction materials will be applied. The goal remains energy-efficient roads (both construction and renovation) with minimal emissions during construction and operation.
The founder of the seminar, Prof. Ing. Ivan Gschwendt, DrSc., and researcher Ing. Ivan Poliaček, CSc., to whom the seminar was dedicated, devoted their entire lives and efforts to this goal. In 2024, Ivan Gschwendt would have turned 90, and Ivan Poliaček would have turned 100. In 2024, they would have celebrated their birthdays (Ivan Gschwendt, 90 years old, and Ivan Poliaček, 100 years old).
The event included a total of 25 presentations by representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic, the National Motorway Company, the Slovak Road Administration, the Slovak Road Company, the Slovak Association of Construction Entrepreneurs, representatives of designers and contractors, testing companies and laboratories, including experts from Slovak and Czech universities.
The event provided a space for expert discussion on current issues and challenges facing us today.
* XXVII. Seminar of Ivan Poliaček with international participation
14.-16.11. 2022, Jasná, Low Tatras, Hotel Grand****
From November 14 to 16, 2022, the 27th annual Ivan Poliaček Seminar took place, organized by the Department of Transport Engineering of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, together with the Slovak Road Society and the main organizational guarantor, Kongres STUDIO, spol. s r.o. After a long time, we met in person at the Grand Jasná Hotel in the Low Tatras and also online, with almost 130 participants. The seminar, held in honor of a distinguished educator and expert in road construction, as well as a leading official of the Slovak Road Society, was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic and the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Prof. Ing. Stanislav Unčík, PhD.
The main theme, Road Construction in Changing Conditions, was chosen in response to the many problems, changes, and challenges that the current times bring. Over the past two years, we have experienced a number of changes that have had a direct impact on every sector of our economy. The COVID-19 pandemic, the sharp rise in the prices of building materials, their shortage and (poor) quality, and, last but not least, the war in Ukraine are affecting the entire road construction industry. It is important to reevaluate the strategy for planning, preparing, and constructing road infrastructure, as well as the prioritization of projects. In the area of material and technological development, we must seek solutions that will ensure the required quality of construction works. This is also directly dependent on a functioning system of legislative, legal, and technical regulations and other related activities.
A total of 23 lectures on specialist topics were given during the event, and there was space for rich professional discussion.
* XXVI. Seminar of Ivan Poliaček with international participation
29.9. 2021, Bratislava, Hotel BRATISLAVA****
On September 29, 2021, the 26th annual Ivan Poliaček seminar took place with international participation. The event, organized by the Department of Transport Engineering of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, the Slovak Road Society, and Kongres STUDIO, spol. s r. o., has a permanent place in the calendar of professional events in the second half of the year. Due to the unpredictable situation with the spread of the coronavirus, the professional guarantors decided to move the standard November date to the end of September, which made it possible to organize the seminar in person and also in the form of online participation. The seminar was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic and Prof. Ing. Stanislav Unčík, PhD., Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
The choice of the main theme, "Road Infrastructure Construction," was also inspired by important documents prepared and published in 2020, such as the document Priorities in Road Infrastructure Construction (MDV SR).
More than 20 contributions from Slovakia and the Czech Republic were submitted for the seminar's specialist topics, and 14 were selected for the program. In the topic "Road Infrastructure Construction Program," speakers provided information on EU funds in road transport, prospects and priorities in road infrastructure construction, including from the perspective of sustainable development, digitization, and streamlining the process of transport infrastructure construction using BIM technologies. A lecture on the ongoing revision of STN standards for road and motorway design sparked extensive discussion.
The technical development section featured presentations on the construction of specific projects on the D3 motorway and R4 expressway, the reconstruction of roads I/18 and I/21 using reinforcement elements, technologies for traffic control and monitoring in the Prešov tunnels, and polymer coatings for road infrastructure. To improve the management of roadways, a calculation program for evaluating long-term monitored road sections in Slovakia was presented. In the area of laboratory testing, the focus was on recycling, modification of asphalt binders, and asphalt mixtures.
* XXV. Seminar of Ivan Poliaček with international participation
Road construction - present and future
20.11.2020
In 1996, the Department of Transport Engineering, in cooperation with the Slovak Road Society, organized a professional seminar with the aim of commemorating the work of the distinguished educator and researcher Ivan Poliaček, CSc. One of the conclusions of the seminar was a proposal to continue organizing this event.
Preparations for the 25th Seminar of Ivan Poliaček began very early, especially considering that it is a jubilee seminar. The careful preparation of the 2015 seminar with a very interesting and topical theme on sustainable development in road construction served as a model for the procedure. Expert guarantors evaluated proposals for the professional focus of the seminar, which clearly pointed to content entitled ROAD CONSTRUCTION – PRESENT AND FUTURE.
The first information about the seminar and the call for papers was published in spring 2020. However, it also brought news of the advancing COVID-19 pandemic. The conditions for holding the seminar and related measures changed very frequently. And then came the second wave of the pandemic. At the beginning of October, the expert guarantors and the organizational guarantor decided that, with the support of their partners, they would publish a collection of expert contributions on four topics, as well as a commemorative certificate commemorating the 25th anniversary seminar, on November 20, 2020, the date of the anniversary seminar. seminar held in honor of the distinguished educator and researcher at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology, and official of the Slovak Road Society.
* XXIV. Seminar of Ivan Poliaček with international participation
Mitigating the effects of climate change on roads
20.-23.11.2019
Hotel Grand**** Jasná, Low Tatras
In 2019, the 13th Ivan Poliaček Seminar was held, with the aim of highlighting the impact of climatic conditions on road construction and drawing attention to expected changes in Slovakia, which is influenced by both oceanic and continental climates. The seminar, which presented valuable information from climatologists as well as insights into the effects of climatic conditions on the properties and behavior of road surfaces, was very well received. The seminar, which presented valuable information from climatologists as well as findings on the effects of climatic conditions on the properties and behavior of road surfaces, was very well received. Ongoing measurements of climatic characteristics confirm increasingly significant signs of warming, and road construction must also respond to this change (and expected change) in climatic conditions. The relevance of the 24th seminar focusing on the impact of climate change on land transport is also supported by the strategic themes of this year's World Road Congress WRA (AIPCR). Lectures on the above-mentioned professional topics are included in individual blocks within the seminar program.
* XXIII. Seminar of Ivan Poliaček with international participation
Road infrastructure development
21. - 23.11.2018
Hotel Grand**** Jasná, Low Tatras
The focus and professional topics of the 23rd Seminar of Ivan POLIAČEK are road infrastructure, its planning and implementation – i.e. road construction in demanding conditions. The road and motorway network in a well-functioning society is of great importance and has a significant impact on economic performance. In Slovakia, road infrastructure accounts for a large share of all transport performance. The call for participation and contributions was very well received by experts, but a large part of the contributions concerned innovations and new technologies in road construction. This is understandable, as there are currently increasing demands for road construction materials, technologies, environmental protection, energy savings, and material reuse. However, the seminar program must include basic topics such as road infrastructure in relation to road transport requirements, the role of transport engineering, and the importance of transport models. Lectures on these topics are included in individual blocks within the seminar program.
