The Information Technology Center (CIT) at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (SvF) of the Slovak University of Technology (STU) operates five computer labs and a PAKS plotting station to support teaching. All personal computers in the labs are connected to the Internet via the faculty’s computer network. During the semester, the classrooms are open for instruction 12–14 hours a day. Outside of class hours, the classrooms are accessible to faculty students for individual work on PCs or for using network services, including unlimited Internet access. The installed software (application software—AutoCAD, Microstation, MathCad, Ansys, Matlab, etc., and MS Office) runs on the MS Windows platform. CIT also provides EDUROAM network connectivity via Wi-Fi on the faculty premises. To meet the network service requirements (e-mail, WWW, FTP, etc.) of students, faculty, and other staff at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the GNU/Linux and FreeBSD platforms have been selected as a suitable and relatively cost-effective solution. Currently, several systems running on this platform are in operation and are available to students, faculty, and other staff members 24 hours a day. The Faculty of Civil Engineering’s web server (svf.stuba.sk) operates continuously, and the information published there is updated on an ongoing basis. |
