VISIT BY STUDENTS FROM FINLAND
|
On April 4, 2017, 24 first-year bachelor's degree students and four teachers from Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), Hämeenlinna, Finland, visited our faculty. They had already expressed interest in our faculty at the end of January. They wanted to learn more about the form and possibilities of study and practice at the faculty. They were particularly interested in the area of safety and planning in transport engineering, as well as the area of laboratory testing of road construction materials and road diagnostics. |

As part of the full-day program organized by the Department of Transportation Engineering, they met with Dean Prof. Stanislav Unčík in the morning, who warmly welcomed them to the faculty. The head of the Department of Transportation Engineering, Ing. Tibor Schlosser, introduced them to his workplace and areas of interest, and together with other members of the department, they presented the department's laboratory, which is part of the STU University Science Park Center. The Finnish visitors showed great interest in the laboratory. The field of materials and technologies was new and more or less unknown to them, as they are more involved in transport engineering. They were also attracted by a visit to Pittel+Brausewetter s.r.o., a company operating in the fields of civil, road, and bridge construction, engineering and industrial buildings, asphalt mixture production technologies, and construction material recycling, among others. Mr. Peter Rybár, the company's financial director, presented its activities and wide range of preferences. The company has a laboratory for manufacturer control tests and an asphalt mixture coating unit with the option of adding recycled material at its premises in Stará Vajnorská. |

After a lunchtime walk through the historic center of Bratislava, there was an excursion along Štúrova Street and the new Old Bridge, together with second-year students from the STOP study program. In addition to information about transportation solutions, there was also a lot of talk about the history of Bratislava. The interesting and enriching meeting between Slovak and Finnish colleagues ended with a group photo, the statement "one day was not enough, we will definitely meet again sometime in the future," and an invitation to the Slovak delegation to visit the University of Hämeenlinna. |

The informational materials and promotional items provided by the STU Rector's Office and the Faculty of Civil Engineering will certainly remain a fond memory.
