Research focus
The research activities of the Department of Concrete Structures and Bridges of the SvF STU cover a wide area of concrete structure design, focusing on the structural performance of concrete load-bearing elements made of normal concrete or concrete with a specific composition, reinforced with steel or FRP composite reinforcements. A significant share of research activities is the evaluation of assessment structures associated with their diagnostics and monitoring, and research in the field of strengthening concrete structures.
The department has two laboratories:
- The UVP laboratory is used for testing samples up to approximately 50 kg weight and has test presses with a maximum capacity of 5000 kN in compression.
 - The laboratory in the Central Laboratories of the SvF has a bridge crane with a lifting capacity of 5000 kg, which allows for manipulation with specimens of real dimensions. The laboratory has hydraulic systems of various ranges. The press for testing speciments in a vertical position allows testing columns with a height of up to 4.2 m and a force of 6000 kN. A strong floor of 10 x 10 m can be used for testing horizontal elements. The maximum length of the tested specimens is approximately 16 m.

Research activities in the field of concrete structures can be divided into six basic areas:
