of Concrete Structures and Bridges
The history of our department began in 1938. During more than 75 years of existence, the department has undergone dynamic development, from post-war reconstruction, through the era of large-scale experiments, to contemporary modern computational methods and Eurocodes. 1938 – 1945
Foundation and War Years
Establishment of the department, arrival of Prof. Havelka, and initial scientific challenges during difficult times.
1946 – 1951
Post-War Recovery
Development of the Concrete Ruler, reconstruction of damaged bridges, and formation of new institutes.
1952 – 1966
Development of Experiments
Building laboratories, major projects like the Sereď Bridge, and theoretical works on shell structures.
1967 – 1991
Era of Computers & Large Structures
Construction of the SNP Bridge (UFO) and Lafranconi Bridge, introduction of FEM and computing technology.
1992 – 2012
Present Day & Eurocodes
New technologies, international cooperation, VEGA grants, and modernization of education.
